Catholic Book Editors
Christian Book Editor and Proofreader - Fiction and Nonfiction
Protestant - Catholicism - Amish - Mennonite - "Old Order" Religions
I’m a copy editor and developmental editor with 15 years experience in publishing. I specialize in religious-themed books, and I have expertise in the beliefs and practices of many Christian denominations and faith expressions.
Much of my background is with books about the Amish, Mennonites, and other so-called Plain or Old Order groups. My knowledge base also extends to Catholicism and the mainstream Protestant denominations. Besides religion, my interests as an editor include history, music, and current events. I have edited fiction and nonfiction for religious publishers, as well as trade books for general interest mainstream publishers.
Ghostwriter, Book Indexer, Copy Editor, Proofreader
AUBREY OTERO has 30+ years of experience as a writer and editor, including fiction, nonfiction, medical, and technical. In the past eight years, she edited and proofread 34 nonfiction books, 32 academic books, 5 college-level textbooks, and 130 academic books.
After obtaining her MA in English Literature and MFA in Creative Writing/Fiction, she began a career as a technical writer, first in geophysics and geology, and later in information technology. Eventually going freelance, she continued her technical writing, and transitioned into journalism, working as Associate Editor/Editor of the Catholic newspaper of San Diego.
Aubrey taught writing at the university level, at the University of California, San Diego Extension program and at the University of Phoenix. With a background teaching fiction writing, she knows how to help develop a writer's voice and can give tried-and-true guidance on plot and story development, creation of believable and memorable characters, and writing with the senses, among other topics vital to writers. Her services include line-by-line editing and proofreading, story editing, stylistic editing (grammar, punctuation, etc.) and, if requested, ghostwriting. She is part cheerleader and part trail guide, encouraging the author's efforts while showing the way to improve the manuscript.
She understands that a writer paying for an editor wants professional feedback, not simply the encouragement typical of family or friends.
Aubrey has edited hundreds of nonfiction and academic books, and dozens of fiction manuscripts, many of which have gone on to be published.
