Mark Twain is often given credit for the old adage, “Truth is stranger than fiction,” but in reality, Lord Byron said it first in a poem he wrote in 1823. Non-fiction writers give credence to the phrase, letting us know that often the best stories are true ones. Today’s narrative non-fiction must, however, be written with all the same essential components as that of fiction. It must read like a novel.
