E. M. Levy, a professional editor for over thirty years, has edited books for Doubleday, Random House, Princeton University Press, Macmillan, Paulist Press, Prentice-Hall, SUNY Press, Scholastic, Scholars Press, Praeger, Solution Tree Press, and many other publishers and private individuals. His projects have received publishing and professional awards. For over seventeen years, he worked in-house as a senior editor focusing on developmental and substantive editing.

With a strong academic background, an advanced degree from Columbia University, and experience teaching at both secondary and college levels, he is at home in the social sciences and humanities. He has edited important works of religious scholarship. In the area of general nonfiction, he has worked in a variety of genres, including biography, public affairs, spirituality, and memoir. Many authors who are nonnative English speakers have turned to him to perfect their English written expression.

Having edited and ghosted in the self-help genre, E.M. Levy also knows how to prepare books for this specialized market. His particular focus has been books on alternative, functional, and integrative medicine. A consultant and editor for Rudolph Ballentine, MD's path breaking Radical Medicine (Random House), he has more recently edited works on detoxification, Lyme disease, autism, and methylation. He has been praised for his ability to translate this type of scientific and medical material into readable prose without losing the acuity of the original text.

Many authors, particularly first-time authors, find the task of structuring their material daunting. E. M. Levy is skilled at creating a solid scaffold for a written work, placing the broad themes, topics, and subtopics in right relationship to each other.

His writing and political cartoons have appeared in magazines and newspapers.
